Learning to See God’s Heart in His Word

The Power of Words

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” This is a common saying that we may have heard in childhood. Despite this, words are very powerful, and can affect how you carry out your life. Instead of words hurting others, however, what if they helped build up and heal instead?

This is the purpose of even the words recorded in the Bible. Yes, that very book that you may have lying dormant on your very bookshelf at this moment! What makes this Bible so important, and how exactly can it build us up?

Get up and dust off any Bible that you have near you. If you don’t have one, dust off your internet Bible. Already at a great start!

About the Bible

Just how thick is this book? Well, the Bible is actually a collection of books that tell of the drastic story of God’s lost re-connection in the first book, Genesis. Then it recounts how God has wanted to re-connect with His people, working hard the past 6,000 years to be one again with His creation.

Overall, how many books are there in the Bible? There are a total of 66 books, 1,189 chapters, and 31,102 verses. No wonder there are so many pages; this isn’t a book that can be read in one evening!

However, it is worth reading. Why? First, we have to see how to read the Bible for all its worth.

Understanding God’s Will

Would an astronomer be able to see other planets and stars without knowing what to look for, or having the proper tools? He wouldn’t be able to. In the same way, Christians have to have the proper tools, and know what they’re looking for when carrying out their faith. The Bible is that tool. It allows one to look into the heart of God, understand Him, and ultimately communicate with God.

We are able to understand God’s will for us if we have the heart to seek. We start off any proper relationship with someone by getting to know them. This is the same with God. If we invest in getting to know more about God, then we will grow closer and establish a connection. This very connection that God has been fighting for since the time of Genesis.

How to Start with the Bible

The question then becomes, “Where do I start?”

The Bible itself can seem intimidating with all the content contained within. Even for myself years ago, when I made a New Years Resolution to read the Bible by myself from cover to cover, I wasn’t able to get past Numbers, the 3rd book in the Bible. Just like any activity, you have to find yourself a community that will encourage you and keep you on track towards completing your goals. That is why I am so grateful to have found a community like SF Zion and to have my friends helping me reach my goals.

I think the value of this community is that it connect you with others who are going on the same path and journey as you are! Building faith is like planting a tree. There’s no better day than today to start. The Word of God is very rewarding, helping heal others, and give them strength. Let’s believe in the power residing in the Bible, and see what teachings others like Jesus, the prophets, and the apostles have in store for us.
